After the 98-win Pittsburgh Pirates were eliminated from the playoffs by the 97-win Chicago Cubs in the NL Wild Card game, the cries to reform MLB’s playoff system grew louder. One person that isn’t too enthralled with the idea is someone whose opinion matters quite a bit – Commissioner Rob Manfred. Manfred spoke about tweaking […]

On Wednesday night, Pirates utilityman Sean Rodriguez lost his damn mind and attacked a water cooler in the Pirates dugout after a benches clearing almost-fight in the seventh inning. End of season post-mortem: 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates

It wasn’t supposed to end this way…again. The 2015 Pittsburgh Pirates were better than the 2013 team that beat the Reds in the Wild Card game and fell to the Cardinals in the NLDS. They were better than the 2014 Pirates team that was shut down by Madison Bumgarner and the Giants in the Wild […]

Schwarber also drove in the first Cubs run of the game with an RBI single. And the Pirates bats can’t solve […]

Houston Astros quieted the critics, but questions still remain

The Houston Astros are moving on after knocking off the New York Yankees 3-0 on Tuesday night in the AL Wild Card game. Houston looked impressive in victory, silencing the Yankees’ lineup while doing just enough on offense to succeed. TOC’s 2015 playoff predictions

We’ve reached October, and with October comes the MLB Postseason. We’ve been watching baseball for six months, and 30 teams have been pared down to just ten. But who do we think will end up as World Series champions? Who will take home the World Series MVP award? Hell, which teams will be one and […]

TOC’s 2015 award winners

The regular season is wrapped up. The writers have filled out their ballots for baseball’s major awards, and while the results have presumably been tallied, we won’t learn the winners for another month-plus. And while we at TOC aren’t members of the BBWAA and don’t submit “official” awards ballots, that doesn’t mean we don’t have […]

Matt Williams has been fired by the Nationals

Matt Williams is taking a trip through the moon door – the Washington Nationals fired the 2014 Manager of the Year on Monday, a day after their disappointing 2015 concluded. Williams’ coaching staff wasn’t spared either – they were all sacked along with the manager. This shouldn’t a surprise to anyone. Going into the weekend, […]

Texas Rangers will sell cotton candy hot dog during playoffs

The Texas Rangers are no strangers to selling ridiculous food items at baseball games. But this…could be a bit much. Cotton candy infused mustard, topped with cotton candy. How do you make a hot dog less palatable? Dump sugar-infused mustard on it and top it with sugar in a different format. The Rangers are also […]
