Matt Williams has been fired by the Nationals

Matt Williams is taking a trip through the moon door – the Washington Nationals fired the 2014 Manager of the Year on Monday, a day after their disappointing 2015 concluded.

Williams’ coaching staff wasn’t spared either – they were all sacked along with the manager.

This shouldn’t a surprise to anyone. Going into the weekend, it was rumored that Williams would be fired (with just cause), and sure enough, that came to fruition.

Will Washington prefer their next manager to be experienced, like Williams’ predecessor Davey Johnson? Will they go with a retread like Jim Riggleman, who resigned midway through the 2011 season, allowing Johnson to take over? Will they go with a hot new face like Manny Acta, who flopped in his two and a half seasons in charge?

Buckle up, folks. This offseason is going to be getting real in DC.
