Braves willing to deal starting pitching for catching

ESPN’s Jayson Stark is reporting the Atlanta Braves are “open to dealing from pitching prospect depth in a trade for a bat. They’ve asked about young catchers.”

Blue Jays need continued production from rookies to succeed in 2015

The Toronto Blue Jays (42-39, 1 GB in the AL East) entered this season in a full-blown youth movement. Yes, the team still had important veteran players, but the club opened with six rookies on its 25-man-roster. Three of those rookies didn’t make it very long. Miguel Castro, pegged as the closer early in the season, started […]

The longest home runs for the week ending July 2nd

Let’s all take a moment of silence to reflect on Giancarlo Stanton’s dominance of THE LIST, which may be coming to an end after he fractured his hamate bone. …… OK, now let’s get on with it. Joc Pederson is once again at the top of this week’s list, and he may be the man […]

Outta here: the five best moments in home run derby history

The home run derby is getting some much-needed tweaks this year, with the inclusion of a bracket and timed rounds. The hope is these changes will breathe some life into baseball’s showcase event, which has sadly become a boring slog over the last few years. But it wasn’t always a sad, boring slog! No, the […]

The best and worst MLB players of June 2015

We’re approaching the midway point of the 2015 season, and before we reflect on the first half, how about we reflect on a wild June? AL Best Hitter of the Month: Albert Pujols Hello my friend, we meet again…June of 2015 was vintage Pujols. He hit .303/.395/.737 for the month with 13 homers, 13 walks, […]

Matt Duffy is baseball’s biggest surprise

Guys drafted in the 18th round aren’t supposed to amount to much. Every once in a while you get lucky, but for the most part teams are drafting for organizational depth by then: players who might move up a level or two in the minors, but nothing more. It’s where teams draft a light-hitting infielder […]

Orioles keep finding a way to win

Following a 3-1 loss to the Astros on June 3rd, the Orioles’ record stood at 23-29 and they were five games back in the American League East. A team that has been in the top-10 in the league in runs scored for several years now appeared to have forgotten how to score runs.  They scored a […]

Feud between Scioscia and Dipoto makes Angels fascinating case study

By virtue of their place in the standings, the Angels were already an intriguing team this season. Going into Tuesday’s play, the team was second in the AL West, four games behind the Astros. The Angels are also 1.5 games out in the wild-card race, with four teams ahead of them in the shuffle. Yet thanks […]

Standings say Diamondbacks are contenders, but team’s direction is unclear

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a tough read this season. Entering the season, things were looking a bit more positive for the club. The team cemented its management structure, bringing in Chip Hale at manager and Dave Stewart at general manager. The D-Backs also scored in free agency, bringing in the most coveted international free […]

Should the White Sox and Indians become sellers?

There is no question that the American League Central is one of the toughest divisions in baseball (it is home to 7 of 9 potential All-Star starters) and that has lead to a difficult climb for those teams at the bottom. While the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox appeared to be ready to contend […]

There’s no obvious AL MVP favorite

As we approach the midway point of the 2015 MLB season, the National League award winners are pretty easy to choose – Bryce Harper, Max Scherzer, and Joc Pederson are pretty easy selections for the MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year awards. But over in the American League, things are more interesting. The […]

Best hitters and pitchers: Week 12

Welcome to the twelfth week of our ongoing series highlighting the previous weeks best hitting and pitching performances. BEST HITTER: Nolan Arenando, 3B, Rockies It’s been a while since home runs dominated this space but that’s a big part of why Nolan Arenado is here. He led baseball with an impressive 7 home runs this […]

Trying to pick the ideal Home Run Derby field

The Home Run Derby is just two weeks from today, and MLB is implementing some new rules to switch things up a little bit. But let’s be honest here – people tune in to the Home Run Derby to see elite home run hitters. This year, those tuning in to see the top power hitters […]

Five injuries that are having the biggest effect on the playoff race

We’re approaching the midway point of the 2015 season, and the playoff races in the American and National Leagues are still quite tight. And while every team has dealt with injuries in one form or another this year, not all of those injuries are created equal. Yeah, it sucks for the Phillies that Cliff Lee hasn’t […]

ANAHEIM, CA – JUNE 12: Closer Huston Street #16 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim reacts after getting the final out and the save against the Oakland Athletics at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on June 12, 2015 in Anaheim, California. The Angels won 5-4. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

Huston Street doesn’t want to be regularly used in non-save, high leverage situations

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim closer Huston Street has pitched in the majors for 11 seasons for four different seasons. He’s been a Capital C Closer in all of those seasons for all of those teams. Needless to say, he’s been around the block and is very comfortable in his role as he approaches 300 […]
