Another managerial vacancy looks to now be filled. In one of the worst kept secrets of the offseason, the Twins are going to name Minnesota legend Paul Molitor as their new manager:
To clarify: Molitor deal being finalized. Monday is anticipated but not definite. Mientkiewicz out here; could wind up in Rochester.

A Minnesota native who spent the final three seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Twins, Molitor was a very obvious choice. His coaching experience isn’t extensive, but he has worked as a bench coach for the Twins and a hitting coach for the Mariners. Whether that is enough to make him the actual best man for the job remains to be seen. However, his background makes him far and away the best PR choice for a team that has struggled in the standings, slashed payroll and suffered through one of the biggest attendance drops in the league in 2014.
With a resurgent farm system, the Twins could be on the rise in the next few years and it will up to Molitor to nurture that young talent so Minnesota can become competitive again. While the organization waits for that to happen, they have to at least be hoping that Molitor’s status as a hometown hero can keep the fans placated and patient.
