Here are your 2015 All-Star Game hats (UPDATE: or not)

In recent years, Major League Baseball has been releasing special batting practice caps for the All-Star Game, patterned after caps worn by the host team. For this year’s All-Star Game in Cincinnati, the caps will be pillbox style, and they’re…well, they’re interesting. The stripes….all of the stripes. Hoooooo boy…. UPDATE: Adweek reported that these were […]

Tim Lincecum has problems staying upright on the mound

Tim Lincecum isn’t the same guy he was a few years ago, when he won back to back NL Cy Young awards. But even at his worst, Lincecum has been able to stand upright on the mound…well, until tonight in Cincinnati, of course. That went down as a wild pitch, and not a balk. Somehow, […]

Johnny Cueto throws glove at ball behind his back

Reds starter Johnny Cueto had no chance at fielding this grounder up the middle by Brandon Crawford, so he did what anyone would have – threw his glove at the ball behind the back. Luckily for Cueto, Zack Cozart was there to field the ball and throw out Crawford. All’s well that end’s well, right?

Jeff Francoeur is still a blast to watch

Jeff Francoeur is a bad baseball player on a bad baseball team. Now 31, the days of “The Natural” are long over. Francoeur has turned into a journeyman since the Braves dumped him onto the Mets in 2009 for Ryan Church, playing for the Mets, Rangers, Royals, Giants, Padres, and Phillies in the majors over the […]

K is for Kluber

The reigning American League Cy Young award winner came into tonight’s start without a win on the season and many nationally asking if 2014 was a fluke. He left tonight’s start with 18 strike outs and just two base runners allowed, the first pitcher in baseball history to perform such a feat. There have been […]

Korean baseball team takes infield shift to an extreme

Some folks around baseball think that the increasing trend of employing the infield shift is hurting the game. They say it kills offense. They say it has gone too far. The proverbial “they” would lose the freaking mind if they saw a MLB team try what this Korean baseball team attempted recently. Yes, that is the third […]

As Rockies crumble, Tulowitzki contemplates trade request, setting bleak future

How bad of a week has it been for the Colorado Rockies? On Monday, general manager Jeff Bridich challenged his players to perform better, saying “they’ve added up to a bad team” and changes would be made to in order to start winning games. The most notable of those moves was demoting pitcher Tyler Matzek […]

Orioles employees who lost wage during Baltimore protests will be paid

In late April, Baltimore Orioles employees lost wages for an entire week. Two games were justifiably canceled and one was played in front of an empty Camden Yards stadium, while three others were moved to Tampa Bay where the Orioles acted as the home team. The cancelations were a direct result of civil unrest in Baltimore, […]

Watch: Giancarlo Stanton crushes a ball out of Dodger Stadium

Tuesday night, Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit his eighth homer of the season off the Dodgers’ Mike Bolsinger. Well, that would be one way to describe the play. But it wouldn’t convey anywhere near the majesty of this feat. Stanton hit the ball out of the park. No, really. He launched the ball out of […]

Watch: Phillies’ Sean O’Sullivan snares line drive with bare hand

Guided by reflex and not by rational thought, Phillies pitcher Sean O’Sullivan apparently forgot that he should use his glove when fielding a line drive hit back to the mound. During the second inning of Tuesday’s game between the Phillies and Pirates, O’Sullivan not only caught a ball hit off the bat of A.J. Burnett […]

Watch: Elvis Andrus must touch Adrian Beltre’s head after home run

Adrian Beltre’s dislike of having his head touched has reached legendary, mythological heights. If he’s ever elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, it should be mentioned on his plaque. (Someone needs to rush the podium and go for a head-rub in Cooperstown too.) One reason that we haven’t forgotten about Beltre’s bizarre hang-up, that […]

Josh Hamilton signs baby’s butt before rehab game with Triple-A Round Rock

Josh Hamilton began a rehab assignment with the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate in Round Rock, Texas this week. In his debut with the Express on Sunday, the former AL MVP went 1-for-3 facing Barry Zito, pitching for Oakland’s Triple-A Nashville club. Hamilton followed that up with an 0-for-4 effort. (Kendall Graveman started that game for […]

Several Braves minor leaguers injured in bus accident

Scary story coming out of North Carolina this morning – eight members of the Carolina Mudcats, high-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, were taken to the hospital on Tuesday morning after their bus flipped over on the way to Myrtle Beach for a game with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Seven players and one coach were […]

A fly ball off the catwalk ended the Yankees-Rays game

Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg is known for having some unique ground rules, and one of those came into play on Monday. With two outs in the ninth inning, Tim Beckham hit a fly ball to left field that Brett Gardner camped under. But Gardner never got a chance to make the catch – the […]
