Dugout Digest – the last week

Folks, at this time next Monday, we’ll be gearing up for Opening Day in America. We here at TOC couldn’t be more excited. So this week, as part of the final week before the new season officially begins, we’re going to be inundating you with coverage about the 2014 season as a whole – no […]

Jurickson Profar will be out until June with a torn shoulder muscle

This winter, the Texas Rangers traded Ian Kinsler to the Tigers for Prince Fielder in part because of the presence of uber prospect Jurickson Profar. To start the year, Texas won’t have Kinsler *or* Profar at second base – the incumbent second baseman will miss the first 10 to 12 weeks of the 2014 season […]

Dugout Digest – more meaningful baseball!

Round two of the “meaningful baseball experiment” in Australia took place on Saturday night and in a sharp contrast to Saturday morning’s game, the offense of both teams was on full display Game of the Night: Dodgers 7, Diamondbacks 5. All that class and playing the game the right way rhetoric has done nothing for […]

Mark Trumbo is already a disaster in the outfield

When the Diamondbacks acquired Mark Trumbo and made the decision to start him in left field on a daily basis, the Internet was quite amused. Thankfully, we didn’t need to wait very long for his first lowlight of the year in the outfield during this morning’s Diamondbacks-Dodgers game in Australia.

Trumbo also nearly allowed Clayton Kershaw (you know, Clayton Kershaw, the pitcher) to take an extra base on him, but he managed to throw him out.

This could be a long year, but rest assured, we’ll be on top of Trumbo’s adventures in left field.

Dugout Digest – actual baseball?

You guys, something interesting happened this morning – an actual regular season baseball game happened in Australia! Game of the Morning: Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 1. The season is officially under way! Well, sort of. I wouldn’t exactly get too excited about a two game series in Australia taking place at inconvenient times for nearly all […]

The four horsemen of the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox always seem to have a different core of players at the heart of their championship teams. They went from Manny and Pedro to Youkilis and Beckett to Victorino and Lester. There’s been one constant in their titles – David Ortiz. But while Ortiz remains the same, his cast of characters continues […]

Three key questions for the Boston Red Sox

If I’m a Red Sox fan going into 2014, I’m feeling pretty good about life. Three titles in ten years, with a different core of players each time? That’s the stuff teams dream about. Boston will look to make it four titles in 11 years in 2014, but there are still some things that need […]

The two biggest weaknesses of the Boston Red Sox

When you’re looking at a team that is coming off of a World Championship, finding weaknesses may be a little difficult. But then again, the Red Sox did end up losing three offensive starters from that World Series team, and they’re not exactly a lock to repeat. Heading into 2014, the two biggest weaknesses of […]

2014 Season Preview: Boston Red Sox

Heading into the 2013 season, the Red Sox weren’t thought of as one of the AL East favorites. Hell, they weren’t even expected to crack the .500 mark following a disastrous 2012 and a mediocre winter. Then, something happen – the new Red Sox team just gelled perfectly, and the Sox won the World Series. […]

Dugout Digest – welcome to Red Sox Day

Guys, I have some bad news that is also good news – we’ve reached the end of TOC’s season preview series. We’ll close it out by looking at the reigning World Champion Boston Red Sox, who had a relatively quiet winter in comparison to their rivals from New York. Can the Red Sox once again […]

The four horsemen of the Tampa Bay Rays

Picking Tampa Bay’s four most crucial pieces to success in 2014 isn’t all that hard. This is a team with a pretty well-defined structure – you know who its superstars and most important players are. So without any further ado, let’s just get this over with. Evan Longoria Longoria is a perennial MVP candidate, and […]

Three key questions for the Tampa Bay Rays

Watching Joe Maddon’s team every year, you get a real sense of appreciation for the way he manages to get every last drop of production out of his players. Sometimes, you have guys that simply don’t work out with the team, like Pat Burrell or (for a very brief time) Manny Ramirez. Sometimes, players revitalize […]
