Round two of the “meaningful baseball experiment” in Australia took place on Saturday night and in a sharp contrast to Saturday morning’s game, the offense of both teams was on full display
Game of the Night: Dodgers 7, Diamondbacks 5. All that class and playing the game the right way rhetoric has done nothing for the Diamondbacks except get them an 0-2 record. Good job, good effort. Anyway, the Dodgers poured on the offense through the first seven innings of this game, taking a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Arizona finally got on the board when Mark Trumbo brought Martin Prado home on a single, but things really got fun in the ninth. Jose Dominguez started the inning on the hill for the Dodgers, and immediately walked A.J. Pollock and Aaron Hill. After a fly out by Paul Goldschmidt Prado singled in Pollock and Hill to make it 7-3, and Dominguez was replaced on the hill by Paul Maholm. Maholm struck out Miguel Montero for the second out of the inning. Exit Maholm and enter Kenley Jansen, who promptly allowed a two-run homer to Trumbo to make it 7-5. But that enthusiasm over a possible comeback was snuffed out when Jansen struck out Gerardo Parra to end the game and give the Dodgers a two-game sweep over their NL West rivals in Australia.
