Trade rumors have put David Price in a bad mood

“Obviously I think about it; it’s why I’ve been in a bad mood for the past week and a half. It’s nothing I really want to talk about. … I don’t know where I’m going, I don’t know when I’m going, so there’s nothing really I have to comment on.”

Joe West gets hit by line drive, flexes

During Tuesday’s Athletics-Mets game at Citi Field, Stephen Vogt smashed a line drive that ended up hitting first base umpire Joe West. Don’t worry though – he was fine.

Oh wow, this is hilarious. The big smile and the flex? Too much.

Colby Lewis, Rangers disappointed in Ian Kinsler

“It’s unfortunate, I feel like it’s unfortunate but that’s just me. I’m not going to sit here and bad-mouth Kins, I really enjoyed Kins and I enjoyed my time playing with him and I enjoyed him as a teammate; disappointed, that’s the word. That’s all. I love Kins, that’s all. I was just disappointed a little bit, that’s all.”

“I know where his aspect of things is. He feels the way he felt maybe how things went down, I have no idea. It’s his opinion, it’s how things transpired. He’s got his view on it, I’m sure. Like I said, I’m taking it as if he was just disappointment in that aspect of things [on the home run gesture] and not with me.”

Dugout Digest – the Dodgers are rising

This is probably going to make Giants fans ill, but the blue moon is rising once again in the NL West. The Los Angeles Dodgers are now just three games behind the San Francisco Giants, and their +40 run differential has actually eclipsed San Francisco’s +38 mark. Since the Giants topped out at 42-21 on […]

Phillies fans give the returning Tony Gwynn Jr. a standing ovation

Philadelphia sports fans get a bad wrap for a number of reasons. But on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, they showed their passion in a completely different way to Tony Gwynn Jr., making his first plate appearance since his father passed away.

I got chills watching that scene unfold. And hey, great job by Marlins catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and home plate umpire David Rackley for letting the moment breathe and letting the Phillies faithful give Gwynn his deserved ovation by stalling for time. Moments like this are why I love baseball so much.

8 players we’d like to see in the 2014 Home Run Derby field

MLB announced the team captains for the 2014 Home Run Derby on Monday, giving the Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista the captain’s “C” for the AL and awarding NL honors to the Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki. As our Bob Biscigliano detailed earlier, the rules and format for this year’s derby have changed, hopefully leading to a better […]

17-year old girl dominates Rays in batting practice with knuckleball

This is 17-year old Chelsea Baker, a pitcher for Durant High School’s baseball team. On Monday, she became the youngest woman ever to throw major league batting practice. And she more than held her own against the Rays. Check this out.

That knuckleball is just gross. She made Evan Longoria look like a fool with that pitch!

With the way the Rays are playing this season, Baker could probably be slotted into their bullpen and immediately be one of the best pitchers out there.

Home Run Derby format changed again

You know the saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it? Well, the Home Run Derby must be broke, because Major League Baseball keeps trying to fix it by changing it every year. While the end goal is still the same — hit as many home runs as humanly possible and get Chris Berman to throw out […]

Dugout Digest – the NL Central is still ticking

The NL Central is the best, most competitive division in baseball. Following Monday’s events, four of the five teams in the division are above .500. Milwaukee still holds a 4.5 game lead over the second place Cardinals, but the fourth place Pirates are just 3.5 games back of St. Louis for second in the division. […]

The Phillie Phanatic shot a pig mascot with a hot dog cannon

I love the Phillie Phanatic. I love bacon. I love when the Phllies sell Hatfield franks for $1 at Citizens Bank Park. When you put all of those in one video…well, I’m going to love said viedeo. I think the best part is how the Phanatic distinctly took aim at the random pig mascot before firing a perfect strike. It was, quite frankly, a thing of beauty. Good on you, Phanatic.

How does Michael Wacha’s injury affect the Cardinals?

Has a St. Louis Cardinals team that’s played below expectations all season now taken its biggest blow? The Cards learned on Sunday that two of their starting pitchers, Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia, are going to be sidelined for the near-future, and possibly further down the line. Of greater concern for this season is the […]

Maybe the Atlanta Braves just aren’t that good

After a rare (for them, at least) series against the Nationals that didn’t result in a win, the Atlanta Braves are just 38-37, 1.5 games behind Washington in the National League East. Atlanta’s run differential for this season has dropped to -14, better than just four teams in the NL. Instead of asking “what’s wrong […]

Josh Byrnes Era in San Diego ends with a whimper

The San Diego Padres have the third-worst record in baseball and — again — are at the bottom of the league in just about every offensive category. On Sunday, they became the first team this season to fire their general manager. Josh Byrnes was let go after nearly 2.5 years on the job. Byrnes took […]
