Philadelphia sports fans get a bad wrap for a number of reasons. But on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, they showed their passion in a completely different way to Tony Gwynn Jr., making his first plate appearance since his father passed away.
I got chills watching that scene unfold. And hey, great job by Marlins catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and home plate umpire David Rackley for letting the moment breathe and letting the Phillies faithful give Gwynn his deserved ovation by stalling for time. Moments like this are why I love baseball so much.
