White Sox acquire Brett Myers from Astros

A day after dealing Brandon Lyon and JA Happ to the Blue Jays for a gang of prospects (and a pair of Franciscos, Ben and Cordero), the Houston Astros continued on in sell mode today, trading former starter and current closer Brett Myers to the White Sox.

Dugout Digest – a disappointing acquisition

Last November, the Indians picked up Derek Lowe from the Braves for a lower level prospect, with Atlanta picking up $10 million of the $15 million left on Lowe's deal. Well here we are in mid-July this year, and Lowe has been pretty bad for the Indians. But last night in Cleveland's 10-2 loss to […]

Why wouldn’t the Padres trade Carlos Quentin and Huston Street?

In a bit of news that pretty much shocked the hell out of me, Jon Heyman of CBS floated out a tidbit that the San Diego Padres aren't going to look to trade Carlos Quentin and Huston Street at the deadline….but in fact, sign the duo to long-term deals. Quentin is one of the more […]

Blue Jays, Astros swap ten players, including Happ, Lyon, Cordero

The Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros announced a huge ten player trade just a moment ago. I haven't had time to break down the particulars yet, so I'll do it as I go. HEADING TO TORONTO JA Happ, Brandon Lyon, David Carpenter HEADING TO HOUSTON Francisco Cordero, Ben Francisco, Joe Musgrove, Asher Wojciechowski, David […]

Dugout Digest – the green and gold

Before this season, when discussing the two wild card setup, a point of discussion was "is any division strong enough to take both of the wild card spots, and send three teams to the playoffs?" The conclusion was that both Eastern divisions had a good shot at that, while the Central had an outside shot, […]

Braves’ broadcast confuses Pablo Sandoval for Buster Posey

During today's Braves-Giants game, Giants manager Bruce Bochy pinch hit for first baseman Brandon Belt with Justin Christian in the top of the eighth inning. The SportSouth technical team apparently expected Buster Posey to move from behind the plate to first…but instead, Posey stayed behind the plate, Joaquin Arias came into the game to play […]

The final word on the MLBSportsReport fiasco

It's been an interesting week with the plagiarizing/fake insider Twitter account MLBSportsReport, and the cavalcade of nonsense surrounding it all. After some digging, I do believe I've found the culprits behind all of the accounts. There may be more, but this is what I've got right now. I'm going to start by admitting I made […]

Dugout Digest – yeah, he’s back

Since Matt Kemp returned to the Dodgers' lineup on Friday against the Padres, he's been pretty good….but, he hasn't been the Matt Kemp that dominated the National League in the month of April. Going into Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Kemp had just one extra base hit, a double, in four games since his return. […]

Front Row Amy is still a thing, apparently

Last season, we brought you the story of Front Row Amy, a voluptuous Brewers fan who sits in the front row of every Brewers game. She's pretty attractive. Anyway, we've been getting more search engine traffic than usual for her, and I did some investigating…and it turns out that this is why. From today's Brewers-Cardinals […]

VIDEO: Brett Lawrie falls over rail, nearly breaks ankle

Your browser does not support iframes. In today's Blue Jays-Yankees game, the injury-ravaged Blue Jays took another blow. Third baseman Brett Lawrie was chasing a pop-up by Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, and while attempting to make the catch, Lawrie reached over the railing separating the camera well from the field. He lost his balance, […]

Nationals’ draftee Lucas Giolito is friends with Samuel L Jackson

Washington Nationals first round pick Lucas Giolito, who signed right at the deadline last Friday, is apparently friends with Samuel L Jackson, the veteran actor from many fantastic movies (including Pulp Fiction, a cult favorite and one of my favorite movies ever, and the three Star Wars prequels). After Giolito signed, Jackson tweeted out the […]

The Marlins may blow up their team in spectacular fashion

In this USA Today piece by Bob Nightengale, he reveals that the Miami Marlins may be trading numerous assets this month, with a potential blockbuster being discussed that would send Hanley Ramirez and Heath Bell to the Red Sox in exchange for Carl Crawford. Something like that seems absolutely ludicrous on the surface…but the more […]

Is Dan Duquette going to get fleeced?

Orioles GM Dan Duquette is at it again. In a piece on FOXSports just posted by Ken Rosenthal, Duquette had some things to say that might be a little horrifying for fans of the team that are looking for it to build from within, around phenomenal prospects Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy Our future is […]
