Dugout Digest – chaos in the Bronx

Do you know why I dislike Red Sox-Yankees games? Every little thing gets taken to the extreme. Michael Pineda has *something* on his glove? HE’S GREASING THE BALL! The Yankees Mickey Mouse lineup gets a win? THEY’RE BACK IN BUSINESS NOW! The aforementioned Pineda shuts down Boston’s lineup? HE’S FINALLY HEALTHY AND DOMINANT AGAIN! Give […]

The best defensive plays from the week ending April 9th

Man, do we love awesome defense here at TOC. From homer robbing catches to single stealing throws, we’re going to cover it all at TOC each week. Today, we’re going to be covering the first ten or so days of the season, and we’ll continue doing this each Thursday throughout the regular season. Cool? Cool. […]

The Phillie Phanatic took out the Racing Sausages with a running butt attack

I love the Phillie Phanatic. I enjoy the Brewers’ Famous Racing Sausages. Put the two together (even though the Sausages in this occasion weren’t authentic), and you have all the makings of a chaotic atmosphere, especially when the Phanatic decides to do his best impression of a pro wrestler and take out the Sausages with a running, flying butt attack. Perfection.

Adam Jones doesn’t think Masahiro Tanaka is anything special

“Why don’t you ask Tanaka about me? I’m the one who’s been over here in the major leagues for a while. Congratulations, he did it over there. Don’t make it like he’s the dirtiest guy in the world.”

[…]

“Am I [supposed] to go home and say I faced Tanaka tonight?” he said. “Just go throw a party that I faced Tanaka? It’s another pitcher. Another pitcher in the rotation. Nothing special to me. It’s just another guy that we have to go through to get to where we want to be.”

Dugout Digest – parity

The American League East was supposed to be competitive – we all knew that. But I don’t think any of us expected *this* – through the first week of the season, all five teams in the division are separated by just one game. The Blue Jays lead the pack at 5-4, the Rays are behind […]

Adam Jones took part in some gluttony at the MLB Fan Cave

During Tuesday night’s episode of MLB Off the Bat on MTV2, Adam Jones participated in a giant donut eating contest alongside hosts Melanie Iglesias and Chris Distefano. After watching this, my only question is, “where can I get one of those donuts?” The damn things are the size of inner tubes!

Dugout Digest – sweet, beautiful revenge

During today’s Phillies home opener, the Philadelphia faithful let Ryan Braun of the Brewers have it. Like, they let Braun *have it* – the boos were deafening. But there’s really no better way to silence a loud, angry crowd than to perform well at the dish, and that’s exactly what the 2011 NL MVP did. […]

Joey Votto did an interview as a Mountie

http://youtu.be/Asf5Exg94NI

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was on Intentional Talk today before the Reds-Cardinals game, and he did his interview with Kevin Millar and Chris Rose dressed like a Mountie, hitting every Canadian stereotype you can imagine. This is pretty amazing.

The most exciting walk offs of the week (April 7th edition)

Walk off hits are awesome. When your team collects a walk off winner, you get dragged from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs in pretty quick fashion. Imagine a game looking hopeless, and all of a sudden, you string together a rally and win in quick fashion. Maybe your bullpen blows a […]

Here’s how the West Michigan Whitecaps rebuilt Fifth Third Ballpark

Back in January, Fifth Third Ballpark (home of the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League) caught on fire. It was a terrifying situation, and the community in Comstock, Michigan was devastated after the incident.

Immediately after the fire, Whitecaps management vowed that they would play in 2014, and that their resolve would not break. On Tuesday night, baseball returns to Comstock at Fifth Third Ballpark, and the above time-lapse video of the rebuilding of the park is nothing short of amazing. My hat is off to everyone with the Whitecaps and the local community that got the park ready for Opening Day – this was awesome.
