In the midst of the fifth inning of a long Mets-Cubs game on Tuesday night, the SNY camera crew panned up to the famous hand-operated Wrigley Field scoreboard, and found one of the operators of the scoreboard taking a snooze. It’s not like this happened during a rain delay, or during a marathon extra inning game – it was the fifth inning! He’s going to have a rough time explaining this to his bosses – just resting his eyes I guess, right?

The worst thing that can happen if you’re in the press box at a ballgame is what happened to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon on Tuesday at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark. In the eighth inning, Pablo Sandoval fouled a ball back behind the plate…and it smashed Sheldon’s laptop, rendering it useless. The timing sucked too – in the eighth inning of an 8-3 game? Sheldon probably had his game story all ready to go, but Sandoval’s foul ball went ahead and ruined all that hard work.

Here’s an absolutely terrifying moment from Tuesday night’s Rays-Marlins game. Giancarlo Stanton got sawed off on a pitch by Rays starter Chris Archer, and his bat barrel flew towards the on deck circle and smashed Casey McGehee right in the gut. This could have been an awful situation, and McGehee could have been seriously hurt. Thankfully, he was OK, and stayed in the game.

This weekend, it was Cardinals rookie Oscar Taveras who homered for his first major league hit. On Tuesday night, it was Astros rookie Jon Singleton who homered for his first career hit. The homer was a missile off of Angels reliever Matt Shoemaker that landed in Houston’s bullpen in right center field at Minute Maid Park. The future is now, Astros fans.
