In the fifth inning of Sunday’s Marlins-Cubs game, a Marlins fan and a Cubs fan both came off looking like extraordinary gentlemen when it came to the matter of a foul ball. The Cubs fan dropped the ball, hit by Marcell Ozuna, onto the field. Nate Schierholtz tossed the ball up into the crowd, where it was caught by the Marlins fan. The Marlins fan then immediately tossed the ball to the Cubs fan, who was more than pleased that he ended up getting his ball. But then, things took another turn – the Cubs fan gave the ball to the Marlins fan’s son.

Say it with me: awwwww. Good on these guys for not turning into whiny children over a baseball.

Are there even bears anywhere in southern California, let alone San Diego? This guy must have been sweating his ass off in this bear costume, though – it’s still San Diego, and it’s still June. Anyway, it’s a good thing they were playing the Nationals – Jayson Werth and Adam LaRoche have the whole “furry” thing down pat.

Junior Lake had a two homer day on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley in the Cubs’ 5-2 win over the Marlins. After Lake smoked his second homer of the day to left center field, the Cubs fan who caught the ball was juuuust a little pumped up about it. Seriously, look at this guy – taunting the Marlins outfielders, flexing, veins bulging out of his neck…take it down a notch, buddy. It’s just a baseball.

Warning: this 22 minute tribute produced by the Rays prior to their game on Saturday with the Mariners will tug at your heartstrings. Several current and former Rays players spill their hearts out about the late Don Zimmer, as well as Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Derek Jeter. Among those in attendance include Joe Torre, Tommy Lasorda, and members of Zimmer’s family, including his wife Soot. The entire presentation was extremely well done by the Rays, and really is a must-watch to really comprehend how much Zimmer meant to so many people across the game.

In the sixth inning of Friday night’s Cardinals-Blue Jays game, St. Louis pulled off a triple play. Jose Bautista hit a line drive to second baseman Daniel Descalso, who flipped to shortstop Jhonny Peralta for the second out, who fired the ball to first baseman Allen Craig for out number three. Considering Toronto had the bases loaded and none out (obviously) at the time, the triple play was a tough blow for the Blue Jays, who only managed to scrape two runs across the plate against Lance Lynn in this one.

This Detroit Tigers fan came to Thursday’s game with the Blue Jays prepared – he brought a love. And with that glove, he caught a foul pop in the fourth inning. What made this catch worth discussing is that he caught the ball while talking on his phone. That must have been a fun conversation to be on the other end of. I wonder if he even mentioned the catch, or just kept going about his conversation like nothing happened.

This is one of the more odd, more frightening things we’ve seen in awhile. Two pitches into Thursday’s Cardinals-Royals game, after Michael Wacha threw a ball to Norichika Aoki, Yadier Molina’s throw back to Wacha smashed Aoki in the head. It was clearly a freak accident, as neither Molina or Aoki did anything that wasn’t normal. Regardless, it’s pretty scary – there was no time for Aoki to react at all. Aoki would stay in the game, but was removed after flying into a double play to end the second inning.
