Brock Holt makes unreal catch on a night full of offense

The Red Sox were matching outs with runs this Monday night in Toronto, playing 14 runs before the fifth inning was even over. But Brock Holt added insult to injury with this absolutely incredible catch of a Dan Johnson fly ball, showing that when it rains (even in a dome) it pours.

The most exciting walk offs of the week ending July 20th

I was just going to do a “recap of the first half of walk offs” this Monday…but there were so many walk offs this weekend that couldn’t be ignored. Thus, we’ll have a traditional most exciting walk offs of the week feature this week, covering a three-day period that was chock-full of action.

Dugout Digest – the deadlocked National League

What’s going on in the National League right now is crazy. On the morning of July 21st, all three divisions have a tie at the top of them. The Nationals and Braves are deadlocked in the NL East, the Brewers and Cardinals are tied in the NL Central, and the Dodgers and Giants are knotted […]

Fernando Rodney and the Angels traded arrows on Sunday

Fernando Rodney shot his trademark arrow at the Angels dugout at the end of the eighth inning after being brought in for a five out save on Sunday. Following an Albert Pujols game-tying double in the ninth, Pujols returned the favor by shooting an arrow of his own. Then Mike Trout got into the act, […]

The Mets lost to the Padres when their pitcher fell off the mound

Is this the most “LOLMETS” play ever? Tie game, two outs, bottom of the ninth, winning run on third…and Josh Edgin trips and falls off the mound when Seth Smith hits a tapper to the first base side of the diamond. Losing is never a good thing, but losing like this is just…well, it’s embarrassing.

The Diamondbacks are taking Star Wars Day a little too seriously

Appearances at Comicon? Check. Starting pitcher dressed as a Jedi? Check. Bobblehead of starting pitcher dressed as a Jedi? Check. An endless array of puns and graphics? Check. Clark the Cub as an Ewok? Check. Announce team dressed as a Stormtrooper and Chewbacca, respectively? Check. I’ve got nothing else to say.

Dugout Digest – picking up ground in the Central

What’s the best way to pick up ground on the division leader? Well, beating them head to head, of course. The Cleveland Indians needed to pick up some ground on the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, and they’ve done just that since the All-Star Break. On Friday, the Tribe won 9-3. On Saturday, the […]

Dugout Digest – we’re back

Thankfully, the season is back underway after what seemed like an eternity. I’m not sure we really gleaned much from one night of games, aside from the race for the AL’s second Wild Card tightening up even further and the National League’s dregs getting pushed further down. We also saw a trade, as Huston Street […]

Huston Street is heading to the Angels in a six-player trade

One of the two unnamed minor leaguers going to San Diego is Jose Rondon, while the identities of the fourth minor leaguer going to the Padres and the one going to the Angels are currently unknown. Street has a 1.09 ERA and 24 saves for the Padres this year. He’s owed the remainder of a […]

Ballgirl plays fair ball, looks terrified

Here’s a priceless moment from Friday’s Royals-Red Sox game at Fenway Park. On an Eric Hosmer scorcher down the right field line, the ballgirl picks up the live ball…and drops it when she realizes what she’s done. The look on her face sums up the situation perfectly.

Did a cabbie jinx Joe DiMaggio’s hitting streak?

Joe DiMaggio’s record 56 game hitting streak ended 73 years ago on Thursday. MLB.com has unearthed this rare radio of DiMaggio talking about the end of the streak, and how a cab driver in Cleveland may have jinxed him by telling him the streak would end. I don’t believe in jinxes, and who knows how […]

The longest homers of the first half

It’s been an awesome first half for long homers. We’ve been tracking them week by week and, as the season begins anew today, we’re going to bring you the longest homers we’ve seen over the first three-plus months of the season. Only one player appears in the top ten twice, and I’m pretty sure you […]
