Braves hesitant to commit to Fredi Gonzalez past 2016

Newly minted Atlanta Braves GM John Coppolella has rubbed plenty of Braves fans the wrong way during his brief time in charge of the team, trading shortstop Andrelton Simmons, reportedly entertaining offers for first baseman Freddie Freeman, and then going on a defiant rant about the Braves rebuilding and/or tanking. However, one thing Coppolella said […]

MLB will send Roberto Clemente’s old team to Roberto Clemente’s home, for Roberto Clemente Day

MLB issued a release today informing the world that next season, Roberto Clemente Day will be celebrated with a two-game set between the Marlins and Pirates in Puerto Rico. Presumably, this has everything to do with Clemente being a former Pirate, and also, a Puerto Rican. Though under the radar in comparison to Jackie Robinson […]

Brewers deal Francisco Rodriguez to Tigers

THE DETROIT TIGERS HAVE A CLOSER! (again) Their new ninth inning man is veteran Francisco Rodriguez, who the club acquired on Wednesday from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor leaguer Javier Betancourt. K-Rod will turn 34 (really, only 34?) in January, and is coming off a season in which he pitched to a 2.21 […]

David Ortiz is retiring after the 2016 season

The only member of the three most recent Boston Red Sox World Championship teams will be hanging it up after the 2016 season. This will reportedly be David Ortiz’s last year in the majors. Ortiz turns 40 on Wednesday, and will make $16 million this year after a club option vested and maxed out with Ortiz’s […]

Report: Braves shopping Freddie Freeman, others – and that makes no sense

If you thought the Atlanta Braves would have an uneventful winter following last week’s trade of shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Angels, think again. While the Braves still look to improve their bullpen and add to their growing horde of young pitching, they could also make moves that further alienate the franchise’s fanbase. According to […]

Mariners acquire reliever Joaquin Benoit from Padres

The Seattle Mariners have made their second move to bolster their bullpen under new GM Jerry Dipoto, acquiring Joaquin Benoit from the San Diego Padres for a pair of class-A prospects. The 38-year old Benoit had an $8 million option for 2016 picked up by the Padres last week, and rumors immediately began to circulate […]

Trading Andrelton Simmons might seem nuts for the Braves, but makes sense

On Wednesday night, an interesting rumor began to surface – the Atlanta Braves were discussing trading shortstop Andrelton Simmons to an unnamed NL West team. Braves Twitter proceeded to go absolutely nuts at trading Simmons, a 26-year old two-time Gold Glove winning shortstop that is signed through 2020 at the relatively fair price of $53 million. Atlanta […]

Twins, Yankees swap Aaron Hicks, John Ryan Murphy

So, about that backlog in Minnesota…looks like it’s been taken care of, for now at least. The Twins have traded center fielder Aaron Hicks to the Yankees for catcher John Ryan Murphy. The 26-year old Hicks had a breakout year in 2015 after struggling in both 2013 and 2014. In 97 games, Hicks hit 11 […]

If made available, Trevor Plouffe would interest the Angels

After the Twins won the posting for Korean first baseman Byung Ho Park, we wondered how the Twins would rectify their potential logjam at the corner infield and outfield positions. While no solution has even been broached yet, and hell, won’t be broached until the Twins actually sign Park, one possibility was the trade of […]

Report: Phillies drawing interest on closer Ken Giles

What’s the most variable part of a baseball team? The bullpen. What’s generally the most overvalued position? The closer. So if you’re a 99-loss team with a dominant, pre-arb closer, trading him makes sense…right? Of course. So the news that the Phillies are receiving interest, and apparently listening, on closer Ken Giles shouldn’t come as […]
