Yasiel Puig really has taken his game to another level this season, establishing himself at the forefront of the race for the National League Most Valuable Player Award and firmly distinguishing himself as one of the league’s elite outfielders. One day, we may have the opportunity to discuss his transformation from solid ballplayer to superstar, but that’s not this week.
Unfortunately for Puig, the end of the week was a little earlier than had been anticipated. A hip flexor strain forced him out of Saturday’s contest with the Colorado Rockies, which the Los Angeles Dodgers lost in extras, and left him out of the lineup on Sunday in the series finale. He’s currently listed as day-to-day.
On the positive side of things, though the week was relatively quiet in terms of Yasiel Puig highlights on the field, he still provided us with some entertainment off the field, and per usual, it comes via his Instagram. Being a kid from Cuba, and heading straight to Los Angeles when making the jump to the big leagues, Puig hasn’t exactly gotten the experience with snow that so many of us have been fortunate to have. With the Dodgers in Denver to play the Rockies, Puig posted multiple videos documenting his snow experience:
That video does not reveal exactly what Puig was constructing in the snow, but he does leave us with some friendly advice as far as snow etiquette is concerned in that we should not eat it. A later video revealed that he was actually setting up an LA in the gorgeous white powder.
It should also be noted that he’s once again sporting his own Yasiel Puig gear.
On a somewhat not Puig note, but still a Puig note, Hyun-Jin Ryu brought the offense to the table off the mound on Friday night, smacking a double in the fifth inning against Colorado on Friday night. On a ball that was absolutely crushed, Ryu flipped his bat just as his Cuban teammate has become so noted for doing. And what a gorgeous one it was:
In addition to the late week injury for Yasiel Puig, it was a relatively quiet week for him at the plate as well. It was a week that lacked a homer, and only two extra base hits overall.
