Yep, the baseball gods hate us – it’s Tommy John for Yu Darvish

The worst fears of the Texas Rangers have been unfortunately realized. Ace pitcher Yu Darvish will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and miss the 2015 season.

This is just awful, as we’ve emphasized in the past. Darvish is one of the most exciting, most electric players in all of baseball, and we won’t get to watch him pitch until 2016. The news of his surgery is incredibly disappointing, but given what we’ve heard over the last week, it’s not exactly surprising.

So, what now? The Rangers obviously need help in their rotation, but given the state of the guys they have there right now, I doubt they’ll go shopping for a Cole Hamels type of guy. Internal fixes may be the best bet, but it’s going to be tough for Texas to compete in a tough-looking AL West when their third-best starter is Colby Lewis or Ross Detwiler.
