During Friday night’s Dodgers-Giants game at AT&T Park, Yasiel Puig went off. He tripled three times during the game, and added a double as well for good measure. Perhaps more impressively, Puig didn’t need to slide into third base on the last two triples. The first one, which did result in a slide into third base, was actually hit to left field rather than the infamous Triples Alley in right center.
The last major leaguer to triple three times in a game? Well, that would be Denard Span on June 29, 2010 against the Tigers. The only other players to do it the last 20 years are Lance Johnson in 1995 and Rafael Furcal in 2002. Puig is also the first Dodger to hit three triples in a game during the modern ball era, As a team, the Dodgers hit five triples on Friday, the most in a game since the White Sox hit five against the Indians on August 16, 2011.
