Troy Tulowitzki didn’t waste any time endearing himself to Toronto fans in his debut with the Blue Jays. (Although the Rogers Centre crowd was already welcoming, judging from the ovation he received before his first at-bat.)
After striking out in his initial plate appearance, Tulowitzki did not miss the opportunity Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams teed up, leaving an 88 mph fastball up in the strike zone. That’s not the pitch you want to throw while ahead on an 0-2 count, and Tulowitzki obliged by crushing it to the second deck in center field. Check it out.
Williams certainly knew he threw a meatball right away, hanging his head as soon as Tulowitzki connected.
Tulo’s two-run shot gave the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. It’s the third home run he’s hit at Rogers Centre in his career. There figure to be many, many more. Toronto’s new shortstop followed up with a double in the fifth inning, giving him a 2-for-3 night thus far.
OK, it’s early, but it’s looking like the Blue Jays won that trade with the Rockies.
