The Tigers have been going through a rough recent stretch, losing nine of their past 12 games and falling four games behind the Royals for third place in the AL Central. But Detroit could get better over its next seven games, playing the Indians and the Reds.
Miguel Cabrera got the Tigers off to a good start in their series opener versus the Tribe, absolutely crushing a ball to deep center field off Danny Salazar for a three-run homer in the sixth inning.
Center field at Comerica Park is listed at 420 feet and as you could see, Cabrera’s shot hit the camera well high above the wall. The home run was measured at 460 feet, but I wonder if that may have been closer to 500. [UPDATE: Cabrera’s homer is now officially 452 feet.] Not too many batters reach that part of a rather large ballpark in Detroit. All Salazar could do was smile in disbelief, awed that Cabrera could hit one of his pitches that far.
That three-run homer broke a scoreless tie, giving David Price all the offense he needed in a 4-0 Tigers victory. Price pitched a #Maddux, throwing a shutout on 93 pitches. When Detroit’s two best players perform at their best, good things tend to happen.
