Jon Stewart is a big New York Mets fan. So it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that he’d want the ace of his favorite baseball team on The Daily Show, especially when the host has about 10 weeks before he gives up the anchor chair on Aug. 6.
Matt Harvey was Stewart’s guest Thursday night, and the Mets diehard immediately took steps to protect the pitcher’s prized right arm, making sure it was properly cushioned against the hard lucite surface of the Daily Show desk. In addition to discussing being in the NL East race and the Mets’ tendency to trade away young stars, Harvey and Stewart also addressed the topic of Jacob deGrom’s “luxurious,” “well-conditioned” hair.
“You know, I’m leaving this show,” Stewart said to Harvey. “You’re all I have left.”
Obviously, like every other Mets fan, he’s excited about the promising core of young talent led by Harvey, Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud. It’s fun to follow this team right now, most especially when you have a marquee star like Harvey who’s not afraid of the spotlight and is pretty good on TV, trying to keep a straight face when Stewart sets up police blockades around his right elbow and explains the tortured plight of the Mets fanbase.
