Umpire gets hit in mask by flying bat

This was a pretty scary moment from Wednesday night’s Twins-Mariners game. Eduardo Nunez fouled off a pitch from Brandon Maurer and lost his grip on the bat after the swing. Nunez’s bat then smacked home plate umpire Gabe Morales in the mask. The sound it made was just gross, and I’m thankful that Morales wasn’t seriously injured. I don’t know if anything could have really prevented this, as it was pretty clearly unintentional, but we’re getting close to the point where something is going to need to be done about flying bats before someone gets seriously hurt.
