The Detroit Tigers will more than likely have a new every day right fielder in 2015. GM Dave Dombrowski told Hunter that after the signing of Victor Martinez earlier this week, he wouldn’t be retained. From the Detroit Free Press…
“I called and said it just didn’t look like it was going to fit the way the club was getting put together,” Dombrowski said. “Thanked him for everything. Absolutely love him. If something changes where we make some changes for one reason or another, that we’re not anticipating, we would still be open. It’s just probably not much of a fit right now.”
Hunter seems resigned to his fate with a new club, after this Instagram post on Friday night.
The 39-year old Hunter hit .286/.319/.446 with 17 homers in 2014. However, he defense in right field continued to decline, and he may not be able to handle even a corner on an every day basis next season.
