The three-time NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking for a new manager this winter. The team and manager Don Mattingly will be parting ways following the team’s NLDS loss to the reigning NL Champion New York Mets, according a report from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Don Mattingly and the Dodgers will part ways, sources tell CBSSports.com.
The decision is being described as mutual.
Dodgers higherups like Mattingly very much, but it was apparent there wasn’t support for the long-term. Word is Mattingly felt he was treated very well by baseball president Andrew Friedman and others, but the sides ultimately decided it was better to move on.
The Miami Marlins are apparently interested in hiring Mattingly, and the Mariners, Nationals, and Padres all have their managerial jobs open as well
It’ll be interesting to see in which direction Andrew Friedman and company go to replace Mattingly. One could assume they won’t be going with a retread like Dusty Baker or Ron Gardenhire. Perhaps former division rival Bud Black will get a look?
