A late July skid has pushed the Reds down the NL Central and wild-card standings, taking some of the fun out of August baseball in Cincinnati.
Though the Reds aren’t out of the playoff race (especially with the Pirates likely losing Andrew McCutchen for three to four weeks), the team and MLB brought some joy and anticipation to the Queen City on Wednesday by revealing the logo for the 2015 All-Star Game, which will be played at Great American Ball Park on July 14.

That is a gloriously macho logo, thanks to the mustache and square cap of Mr. Redlegs. It invokes a classic feeling and respect for history, the kind of tone that baseball features so well. The logo almost seems as if it should be animated, with the mustache wiggling, and some pipe or street organ music playing in the background. MLB and the Reds should have some fun with that during the next year.
Cincinnati also announced an All-Star Game bobblehead, to be given away to the first 25,000 fans in attendance on Aug. 23.
