The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 on Tuesday night, and will be heading back to the Postseason for the second consecutive year.
This was a team that started off 18-26, and was eight games out of first place in the NL Central on May 20th. Since then, they’ve gone 68-45, good for a .602 winning percentage that has been topped by only the Nationals among NL teams. Conceivably, the Pirates could still catch the Cardinals in the NL Central, but more than likely, they’ll be playing in the Wild Card game against the Giants – we just don’t know whether the game will be in Pittsburgh or San Francisco.
The Giants haven’t clinched a playoff spot yet, but can take the final NL berth with just one more win or one more Brewers loss this year.
