The Seattle Mariners needed offense, and they get some offense – though I’m not sure if they really needed a platoon outfielder like Chris Denorfia.

Denorfia is hitting just .242/.293/.319 this year, but over his lengthy career, he has a .301/.367/.443 triple slash against left-handers. When you consider that as a team, Seattle is hitting just .248/.294/.350 against southpaws this season, the trade makes a bit more sense.
They didn’t give up much in return. Almonte is a 25-year old that has been unimpressive in his major league career, hitting .225/.275/.337 in 52 games between 2013 and 2014. Kohlscheen is a 25-year old reliever that has a 2.70 ERA in 56 2/3 innings this season between AA and AAA, striking out 55 and walking just ten.
