Orioles nearing deal to acquire Gerardo Parra from Brewers

A year after being dealt from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Milwaukee Brewers, it looks like Gerardo Parra will be on the move again. The Baltimore Orioles are closing in on a deal for the outfielder, who has played all three positions this season for the Brewers.

Typically known for his defense, the 28-year old Parra’s bat has been his main asset this year. In 100 games, Parra is hitting .328/.369/.517, by far the best triple slash of his career. Parra has also homered nine times (matching his total from all of last year and just one off his career high of ten, set in 2013) and stolen nine bases.

The Orioles have been searching far and wide for production in left field this season, getting just a pathetic .210/.283/.330 with eight homers from the position. Even if Parra isn’t able to keep up his torrid offensive pace (which seems like a pipe dream), he’d be an upgrade for Baltimore over the final two months of 2015.

The expected return is Zach Davies, a 22-year old pitcher that has played quite well at AAA this season. In 101 1/3 innings this year, Davies has a 2.84 ERA, 81 strikeouts, and 33 walks.

Baltimore is also talking to the Phillies about Ben Revere, but the Parra deal seems much more likely at this point in time.
