The next Marlins manager is, of course, their general manager

Just in case you thought the Miami Marlins somehow couldn’t get *more* dysfunctional, their situation just turned into even more of a mess. Their new manager, replacing the deposed Mike Redmond, will be…general manager Dan Jennings.

Bobby Cox, this is not. Jennings has one year of coaching experience, and that came 30 years ago…with a high school team. Jennings has been with the organization since 2002 (hey, the beginning of the Jeffrey Loria regime!), and has worked his way up the ladder to general manager over the last 13 years.

But let’s be honest here – naming your general manager as manager is a desperate move from a desperate franchise that has no idea what they’re doing. On the bright side, there’s *one* fall guy if things go awry here, and that’s Jennings. He’s the one that put this team together, and if he can’t lead the team to Postseason success on the field, he’s apparently a failure in two aspects of the game instead of one.

And we’ll close with one depressing fact. Giancarlo Stanton is just 25, and Jennings will be the *seventh* manager he’s played under in the majors, including interim manager Brandon Hyde. That’s ridiculous.
