This would have been something else – according to a report from Adam Rubin of ESPN.com, the New York Mets attempted to bring over long-time rival Jimmy Rollins from the Phillies in a trade. Of course, the trade was blocked.
The Mets, in need of a shortstop, spoke with the Philadelphia Phillies about acquiring Jimmy Rollins in a trade, sources told ESPNNewYork.com. The pursuit since has been dismissed because Rollins does not want to leave Philadelphia, a source added.
Could you even imagine Jimmy Rollins in blue and orange? That’s jarring to even think about. Rollins has 10 and 5 rights, and can decline any trade he wants. I don’t think there would have been much of a chance at this even happening.
Rollins will make $11 million in 2015 after an option based on plate appearances vested earlier this summer. He’s still a productive player, coming off of a season where he hit .243/.323/.394 with 17 homers and 28 steals. He turns 36 later this month.
