Matt Kemp hits the first cycle in Padres history

Well, cross the San Diego Padres off of one list. On Friday night, Matt Kemp hit the first cycle in club history against the Rockies.

Kemp started his trek towards the cycle with a first inning two-run homer off of Yohan Flande. In the third, he picked up a single off of Flande. After a fifth inning ground out, also off of Flande, the cycle didn’t look like much of a possibility.

But in the seventh, Kemp doubled off of Rafael Betancourt to knock out the third leg of the cycle. And then in the ninth, Kemp hit an RBI triple off of Justin Miller to finish the cycle and end some of San Diego’s cycle-related misery.

Kemp’s cycle is the fourth this season (all of which have come in the last two months), following those hit by Brock Holt, Shin-Soo Choo, and Adrian Beltre.

There’s now only one active deal that hasn’t hit for the cycle – the Miami Marlins. But with a player like Dee Gordon in the fold, it wouldn’t shock me to see them fall off of that list soon.
