The Miami Marlins are getting very, very close to finalizing their mammoth extension with Giancarlo Stanton – and won’t be coming cheaply.
#marlins, stanton closing in on $325M, 13-year deal. expected to have no-trade and opt-out. story up soon on @CBSSportsMLB

Yep, that’s right – 13 years, $325 million, a no-trade clause, AND an opt-out. So in other words, they’re paying Stanton what could be considered fair market value, locking him in long-term, ensuring they can’t sell him off in a fire sale, and giving him an escape ladder in case the team doesn’t show a future commitment to winning.
Needless to say, I think this is going to work out OK for him.
