Kyle Schwarber reaches way outside for opposite field homer, ties NLCS Game 3

In the first inning of Tuesday’s NLCS Game, the Mets took an early 1-0 lead, which may have gotten Cubs fans pretty anxious. But in the home half of the inning, Kyle Schwarber once again came to the rescue, launching a home run to tie the game.

Calling it a home run might not be doing Schwarber’s long ball justice, however. No, it didn’t land on top of the right field video board, like the bazooka shot he hit in the NLDS. But Schwarber still showed major strength by reaching for a pitch high and outside, and muscling it to the opposite field. Take a look:

Just in case the video doesn’t quite convey how far off the plate Schwarber reached for that pitch, here’s a tweet from ESPN Stats and Info that further illustrates the point.

Schwarber’s home run also had some history attached to its comet trail. His fifth home run of the postseason gave him the record for most by a Cubs hitter in the postseason. Additionally, Schwarber has the most playoff homers by a batter before the age of 23.
