On Thursday, Dave Stewart was hired by the Diamondbacks to be their GM. On Friday, Stewart fired manager Kirk Gibson and bench coach Alan Trammell, ending a tenure that bordered on infuriating at times.

This was well-overdue for the Diamondbacks. Gibson became the winningest manager in team history this season, but calling Arizona’s 2014 “turbulent” was probably an understatement. The “eye for an eye” tough guy garbage began to cause controversy on a national stage after NL MVP Andrew McCutchen was hit in the spine, and a 15-35 final two months of the season put a nail in Gibson’s coffin.
The Diamondbacks are the third team that will be seeking a manager this offseason following the resignation of Ron Washington in Texas and Bo Porter’s firing in Houston.
