Jon Lester hadn’t made a pickoff throw in two years. He ended that streak on Monday night against the Reds, and the results were very nearly disastrous.
But right fielder Jorge Soler was around to gun out Zach Cozart, who was trying to turn Lester’s one-base error into a two-base error.
Soler also came up big with his bat on Monday night, smashing a pair of two-run homers to keep the Cubs in the game.
