Jeremy Affeldt hurt his knee playing with his kids

Details on this are still a bit sparse, but it’s tentatively going into the “stupid baseball injury” Hall of Fame. Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt hurt his knee…while he was playing with his kids.

I’ll let the AP report take it away.

The Giants placed left-hander Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after he sustained a left knee subluxation while playing with his children a day earlier.

The 36-year old Affeldt has a 5.46 ERA in 31 1/3 innings this season, the final year of a three-year, $18 million contract.

Ridiculous injuries are nothing new for Affeldt. In 2011, he cut his hand while slicing burgers in September and was knocked out for the season. In 2012, he hurt his knee while lifting up his son. He missed time in 2013 with oblique and groin strains, but both came while on the mound.

Earlier this offseason, our Dave Tobener pitched a Giants giveaway idea – the Jeremy Affeldt weird injury snowglobe.

It’s a shame he’s a free agent this offseason – that would be a great giveaway item next spring.
