The extension talks between Giancarlo Stanton and the Miami Marlins are heating up. How much? Well…he’d have the largest contract in American sports if the deal goes down as is being rumored.
Source: Stanton deal under discussion with #Marlins is in range of 12 years/$320M. Reported last night that it was at least 10 years/$300M.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports in an Insider article that Stanton getting hit in the face back in September has perhaps changed his viewpoint about signing long-term with the Marlins. Rosenthal is also reporting that the Marlins are willing to talk about a no-trade clause, something they haven’t done with any player before.
The Marlins need to go for broke to keep Stanton in town for his prime seasons, and if it takes a monstrous contract like this, so be it. Stanton is just 25, and is coming off of the best season of his career, in which he was the runner-up for the NL MVP award. He has 154 career homers in just 634 games. Inking Stanton long-term (with a no-trade clause, of course) would be the type of move that indicates to fans and other players across the league that Miami is serious about winning and won’t be in the middle of a fire sale any time soon.
