Garrett Richards stretchered off field with horrific knee injury

Garrett Richards was just stretchered off the field with a horrific knee injury and may have taken the Angels’ World Series hopes with him.

It appears Richards caught a spike and blew out his knee. He was on the ground for eight minutes, screaming in pain before he was moved to a golf cart via stretcher.

One assumes that Richards’ season is over, a devastating blow to the Angels who saw Richards blossom into a legit frontline starter. Their rotation now consists of a declining Jered Weaver, a struggling C.J. Wilson, Hector Santiago and Matt Shoemaker. They have virtually no pitching depth in the minors, meaning they will have to rely on the likes Wade LeBlanc, Randy Wolf and Michael Roth to fill in for Richards as the Halos fight to hold onto the AL West lead and possibly even a Wild Card spot. That’s kind of a problem and there isn’t much the Halos can do about it at this point other than hope Richards’ injury is somehow not as serious as it appears.
