Andres Salgado is a seriously devoted Miami Marlins fan. When pitching sensation Jose Fernandez suffered an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery, Salgado vowed not to cut his hair until the 22-year-old recovered. So he let it grow for 13 months.
But with Fernandez returning to the Marlins’ rotation Thursday, it was time for Salgado (who became known as “The Jose Guy“) to finally get his head and face shorn. Making the occasion even more special, that haircut and shave was given by Fernandez himself (along with team barber Hugo Tandron) in the team’s bullpen on Wednesday.

Salgado’s dedication to the Marlins certainly has to be admired. The man wears a sleeve like Giancarlo Stanton on his right arm too. Rooting for the Marlins hasn’t been easy for its fanbase over the years, and with star players constantly being traded away, it’s been easy to joke that the team can’t possibly have any diehard fans. Salgado obviously shows otherwise, and it’s fun to see his devotion rewarded by the team and Fernandez. If he wasn’t already a Marlins fan for life, he probably is now.
