We’re going to need another year to see whether or not a player will accept their one year qualifying offer. Every player that earned an offer this year declined it, continuing a three year trend since the implementation of the qualifying offer following the 2012 season.
No MLB players will accept the $15.3 million qualifying offers once again this year
— Jim Bowden⚾️🏈 (@JimBowdenGM) November 10, 2014
These are the players that declined.
Melky Cabrera, Blue Jays
Nelson Cruz, Orioles
Michael Cuddyer, Rockies
Francisco Liriano, Pirates
Russell Martin, Pirates
Victor Martinez, Tigers
Hanley Ramirez, Dodgers
David Robertson, Yankees
Pablo Sandoval, Giants
Ervin Santana, Braves
Max Scherzer, Tigers
James Shields, Royals
Each of these 12 players’ teams will receive a compensation pick if the player signs elsewhere this winter, while the signing team will loss their first round pick (or second, if the team has a top ten pick in June).
One of these 12 players is already off the market – Michael Cuddyer signed a two-year, $21 million deal with the Mets on Monday.
