Hale managed for six years in the Diamondbacks organization, winning the 2006 PCL title and Manager of the Year award with Tucson. That championship team included future major leaguers Stephen Drew, Miguel Montero, Carlos Quentin, Chris Young, among others.
He served as Arizona’s third base coach from 2007 to 2009, the Mets’ third base and infield coach from 2010 to 2011, and as Oakland’s bench coach since 2011. He also spent his collegiate career at the University of Arizona and lives in Tucson in the offseason, making his fit with the Diamondbacks look even more ideal.
