Everything is coming up Mets early on in Game 2 of the NLCS. Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta looked surprisingly mortal in the first inning, giving up a Curtis Granderson single, David Wright double and Daniel Murphy home run (yes, he did it again!) to open the home half of the frame and give the Mets a 3-0 lead.
Granderson also came up big with his glove in the second inning, taking away a chance for the Cubs to get a run on the board. Chris Coghlan hit a ball deep to right field off Noah Syndergaard, but Granderson took a great route to the ball, timed his leap perfectly and robbed Coghlan of a home run. Here’s a look at the catch:
Since nearly giving up a home run, Syndergaard hasn’t left much to chance, striking out four of the next five Cubs hitters he’s faced. (Dexter Fowler drew a walk among those four whiffs.)
Meanwhile, Granderson is continuing to make an impact in Game 2. He drew a walk to lead off the Mets’ third inning, stole second and third base, and scored on an infield single by Yoenis Cespedes. As a result, the Mets currently lead the Cubs 4-0.
