During Sunday’s Reds-Mets game, an odd thing happened when Jason Bourgeois pinch hit for Cincinnati.
The scoreboard at Citi Field read “unknown” instead of his name.
Well, that’s embarrassing. The scoreboard eventually switched from “unknown” to “Bourgeois”.
There was likely some confusion because of the fact that Sunday was the first game of the year for Bourgeois, and he was the 26th man on the roster because of Sunday’s quasi-doubleheader (including the completion of Saturday’s suspended game). Throw in those extra variables, and the damn machines probably had no idea what to do.
