Bud Black joins Angels organization as special assistant to GM

Bud Black has finally found a job.

After striking out on finding a managing gig this offseason, coming close to landing the manager gig in Washington, the former Padres skipper will take his talents to Los Angeles and join the Angels organization as a special assistant to GM Billy Eppler.

Black joining the team probably doesn’t mean he won’t pursue managerial endeavours should they become available, but is likely a placeholder position until that time comes. This way he stays active, and can be involved in the game without having a lion’s share of the work. While doubtful, if the Angels ever fire current manager Mike Scioscia, they have an internal candidate waiting in the wings. Regardless, there’s no downside in having Black involved with the franchise, even in a small capacity.
