For the second time in three days, an MLB pitcher was ejected for having a foreign substance on his arm. On Saturday, the lucky (or unlucky, I guess) recipient of an ejection was Baltimore Orioles reliever Brian Matusz, following in the footsteps of Brewers reliever Will Smith, ejected on Thursday from the Brewers-Braves game.
Matusz retired two batters in the 12th inning of Baltimore’s 1-0 loss in Miami to the Marlins before his ejection. He was replaced by T.J. McFarland, who struck out Christian Yelich to end the 12th before loading the bases and allowing a walk off single to Martin Prado.
A suspension will likely be in the cards for Matusz. Smith was handed an eight-game suspension for his foreign substance usage, and I’d imagine a similar penalty will be heading Matusz’s way.
