Bartolo Colon is a notoriously terrible (yet amusing) hitter. And this at bat resulted in a notoriously terrible swing from Colon.
Yet, the stars aligned on this chopper off the plate. Yadier Molina couldn’t field it cleanly. Colon reached base safely. The angels began to sing.
A Bartolo Colon infield single would melt the Internet, but alas, this play went down as an error on Molina.
Maybe Molina knew something. It was a 1-0 game before his error, and after the error, St. Louis scored eight more times off of Colon before chasing him in the fifth inning. All that running exhausted poor Bartolo.
