Barry Zito and Tim Hudson to pitch against each other Saturday

Time to party like it’s the early-to-mid 2000’s!

The Oakland Athletics announced on Tuesday that 37-year-old Barry Zito will be their starting pitcher this coming Saturday. That means he’ll face 40-year-old former teammate Tim Hudson, when the A’s play the San Francisco Giants.

Zito and Hudson were in the Oakland rotation together for five years, from 2000 through 2004, each notching one 20-win season during that span. Zito won the AL Cy Young Award in 2002, while Hudson finished second two years prior.

Even if you’re not excited to see this matchup, you should tune in just to watch Barry Zito start a game, something he hasn’t done since 2013, and something he hasn’t done well since 2010.

The other member of Oakland’s “Big Three” won’t be left out either, as Mark Mulder will take part in a pregame ceremony to honor the trio on Sunday. Hopefully, Mulder will be in attendance the night before when his two former teammates square off.

Huzzah!
