Washington is clearly concerned about the health of Ryan Zimmerman, as they’ve acquired shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the Indians in exchange for Zach Walters. He’ll likely get most of the reps at second base, deposing Danny Espinosa from the position.

Cabrera’s trade value has decreased in recent years for the Tribe. This season, his final under contract with the team, he’s hitting just .246/.305/.386 with nine home runs and seven stolen bases as Cleveland’s primary shortstop. With top prospect Francisco Lindor knocking on the door, moving Cabrera makes sense for the Indians.
Walters is a 24-year old who hit a whopping .300/.358/.608 with 15 homers in 60 games for AAA Syracuse this season, and hit .205/.279/.462 in 32 games in the majors. He’s played four different positions during his brief time in the majors, and you’d assume that the Indians will try to shoe horn him into the lineup somewhere to see if they have anything here.
