Jorge Soler homered on his first major league swing

Cubs uber-prospect Jorge Soler made his major league debut for the club on Wednesday evening in Cincinnati. The first pitch from Mat Latos that Soler liked enough to swing at ended up over the fence in center field. Welcome to the bigs, kid.

Adrian Beltre’s fear of head touching immortalized in music video

Everyone knows how much Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre hates having his head touched. The MLB Fan Cave put together this music video of Beltre’s head getting touched, set to a parody of “All I Do Is Win”. It’s hilarious. Poor Adrian. At least the Rangers are curb stomping the Mariners in Seattle today.

Why not Alex Gordon for American League MVP?

Even with his second half scuffles, many have already declared that this is the season that Mike Trout finally wins his long deserved American League Most Valuable Player Award. It’s hard to argue against it, as he continues to produce at an incredible rate in now his third full big league season. However, there are […]

John Rocker will be on the new season of ‘Survivor’

If you ever hoped John Rocker would be sent to a desert island, CBS is granting your wish. Sort of. The former Braves reliever is part of the new cast for Survivor — or as fully titled, Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water. For those not familiar with previous seasons of Survivor the “Blood […]

Dugout Digest – a tough time for the Tribe

The Cleveland Indians are in one hell of a predicament. In August, they have a 14-8 record, which is the fifth-best mark in all of baseball. There’s just one problem with that – two of the teams ahead of them are the Royals and Mariners, current playoff teams that Cleveland is trying to chase down […]

Here’s another completely terrible first pitch

It has truly been a banner year for awful first pitches. Today, we bring you back to Texas, but a little to the southeast of Arlington. Before Tuesday night’s Athletics-Astros matchup at Minute Maid Park, an Astros fan that threw out the first pitch spiked the ball. And when I say spiked, I mean SPIKED […]

5 teams that should trade for Bartolo Colon or Scott Feldman

With five days remaining until MLB’s waiver trade deadline, conversations are picking up among contenders looking to add one last key piece or patch up a troubling roster hole. Somewhat surprisingly, teams looking to add starting pitching have two options available that just cleared waivers and can now be traded. The Mets’ Bartolo Colon is […]

Did trading Yoenis Cespedes doom the Oakland A’s?

On July 31st, the Oakland Athletics stood atop the league, at 66-41, two games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. They carried what was far and away the best offense in the American League, with 535 runs scored to that point and looked primed to carry that into October. Then they traded Yoenis Cespedes. Now, the trade of Cespedes […]

Dugout Digest – the future is now in Chicago

I’m really starting to wonder if the Chicago Cubs aren’t going to finish in last place in the NL Central this year. Despite splitting a four-game series with the Braves this past weekend, the Reds are just 12-24 since the All-Star Break, falling five games under .500 and pretty much out of the NL playoff […]

Chicago Cubs set to call up Jorge Soler

Earlier this month, it was Javier Baez making his way to the Windy City as the first of a new wave of prospects beginning to appear with the Chicago Cubs. On Wednesday, it appears that another highly touted youngster will be making his debut with the big club, as the long-awaited debut of Jorge Soler will take place against the Cincinnati […]

Dugout Digest – so, maybe the AL East hasn’t been won

Last week, I was very complimentary towards the Baltimore Orioles in regards to their domination of the AL East. Of course, the Orioles got swept by the Cubs this weekend, and the Yankees swept the White Sox. Baltimore still has a healthy six game lead, larger than any division leader in baseball aside from the […]

Mets turn triple play against Dodgers

The Mets’ romp of the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon had a defensive highlight in addition to the offensive fireworks put on by New York – a sixth inning triple play that snuffed out a potential Dodgers rally. Matt Kemp hit a grounder to Eric Campbell at third, who threw to second baseman Daniel Murphy to force […]

Dugout Digest – the Royals are making a statement

Kansas City is really taking a step forward in their attempt to win the AL Central and reach the playoffs for the first time since 1985. The Royals are now three games up on the Tigers in the division, and have rolled their way to a 24-10 second half record – including a 17-4 mark in […]
