Neil Walker dumped a homer into the Allegheny River

Yes, this ball bounced into the river and didn’t get there on the fly. Yes, Neil Walker’s home run “only” went 396 feet, a far cry from the 456 feet from home plate directly down the right field line to the river. Regardless, you don’t see many home runs get wet at PNC Park. It’s […]

Dugout Digest – the new kings

The Oakland Athletics have been baseball’s best team since…oh, about day one of this season. But the A’s have been pulled off of their throne – the Angels now have sole possession of first place in the AL West, and no other team in baseball has a better record than their 73-50 mark. The A’s […]

Nick Markakis robs Conor Gillaspie of go-ahead homer

With the White Sox trailing the Orioles 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Nick Markakis robbed Conor Gillaspie of what would have been a go-ahead two run homer. Not content with taking away Chicago’s chance at tying the game, Markakis capped off a five-run eighth inning for Baltimore with a two-run homer of […]

Corey Kluber wants to be on #TrueDetectiveSeason2

Cleveland Indians pitcher Corey Kluber has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, but no one knows too much about him. Kluber attempted to show off some of his personality by reciting a Rust Cohle monologue from season one of True Detective, all while wearing a wig and playing with a can […]

The most exciting walk offs for the week ending August 17th

Two walk offs this week for each of the Nationals, Indians, and Rangers. Hey, when it rains, it pours, I guess. August 12th, Rays vs Rangers Walk off walk to score a pitcher. That’s gotta suck. August 13th, Diamondbacks vs Indians 4 So…Asdrubal who? Zach Walters is already endearing himself to Indains fans. August 14th, […]

Dramatic Pirates fan was star of the game with the Nationals

During Sunday night’s Pirates-Nationals game at Nationals Park, the Root Sports cameras kept cutting to a young Pirates fan in the front row that experienced a vast array of emotions during the evening. He went from anger, to sadness, to elation, and back to utter depression when Scott Hairston’s walk off sac fly ended the […]

Michael Cuddyer hits for cycle for second time in career

Michael Cuddyer hit for the second cycle in his career on Sunday night, capping off the Rockies doubleheader sweep of the Reds with a little bit of history. It’s been a lost year for Cuddyer, as the 35-year old has played in just 33 games in 2014 while dealing with both a strained hamstring and […]

Dugout Digest – clashing contenders

This weekend, several contenders squared off across baseball. And at the end of action on Sunday, we learned…well, nothing. Baltimore lost two out of three in Cleveland. Seattle won two out of three in Detroit, with the Tigers scoring just seven runs over the three game series. The Blue Jays lost two out of three […]

Dugout Digest – the pitchers duel that wasn’t

We all expected the first ever matchup between Felix Hernandez and David Price to be an epic clash of two of the game’s best pitchers. It didn’t exactly go according to plans. Price kept his end of the bargain, allowing just one run in eight innings, but he walked three and struck out seven, numbers […]

Miss Texas just broke the scale for awful first pitches

This is incredible. It’s baseball, not bowling. But let’s be honest – based on how many pitchers the Rangers have used this year, she would fit in perfectly. Congratulations, 50 Cent. You’re no longer the worst!

Dugout Digest – Angels on the doorstep

We are dangerously close to the worst nightmare for the Oakland Athletics – the Los Angeles Angels surpassing them in the AL West standings. The Angels are just a game behind the A’s, and while Oakland has the benefit of playing a sad looking Braves team this weekend, the Angels will be battling a Rangers […]

Hyun-Jin Ryu placed on DL with strained butt muscles

While the way it happened was actually related to baseball, the reason that Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the disabled list on Friday is one that’ll make some fans giggle like children – he was two strained muscles in his right buttock. From ESPN LA: Ryu was injured while pitching Wednesday night in Atlanta. He […]

Marlins fan falls over seats trying to grab home run ball

I’m going to be scrutinizing this video like it’s the Zapruder film. Back, and to the left. Back, and to the left. At least dude didn’t fall flat on his face. Besides, it’s an Aaron Hill home run ball. Not exactly Giancarlo Stanton, guy.

Ruben Amaro isn’t punting on the 2014 Phillies

“Right now, we’re trying to win as many games as possible,” Amaro said. “At the same time, at some point, we’re going to have to start looking to the future. And once we’re ‘eliminated’ … listen, is it a long shot to get back into this Wild Card race? It is. Numerically it’s not impossible, but right now obviously I’d be foolish to say it’s something that’s probable.

“And at some point, we may be looking more at what we have to do for 2015 as far as what’s going on, on the field. But until then, we’ll make the decision when it’s the appropriate time, when it’s time to start to looking to 2015 and beyond. We’re not quite there yet.”
